Volunteer HERO

We are an all volunteer animal rescue organization.  We hope to offer our volunteer services to all of the Northern, NV counties and the Northern, CA counties which border NV.

Our Volunteer HEROES are the backbone of the our group.  Without them we would not be able to save as many homeless animals as we do.  The opportunities for volunteering are numerous and it is up to you just how much time you can give to the animals and what skills you use to help them get out of a shelter situation and into a new home..

Some of the volunteer activities that we need are:

Shelter HERO-Go to your local shelter and spend time getting to know the shelter and how it works.  Most Looking for My Hero volunteers are also shelter volunteers at the same time, as they then get to know the animals on a more personal level and can work with us and the shelter to coordinate efforts for getting the animal’s personal story out to the adopting public and other animal rescue groups.

Shelter HEROES perform tasks such as photographing the animal, spending time with it and observing it’s personality and behavior, researching whatever information it came in with and then sending all of this information back to us for presentation to the public and rescue groups.

Transport HERO– A transport Hero is someone who drives the animal where it needs to go, this can be locally or part of a long distance destination. A common scenario would be that a Northern, CA, rescue group has agreed to pull an animal out of a Northern, NV shelter.  They now need to get it transported back to them in California.  A transport plan would be set up and a plea would go out for someone to drive each leg of the transport ultimately getting the animal to the designated rescue group.

Locally, an animal may need to go directly to a Vet clinic when it is pulled out of a shelter for rescue and the rescue group does not have anyone to drive it there.  A Transport HERO would agree to make this local trip, possibly acting as the animal’s chaperone at the Vet office. Or as an example, the rescued animal is at a shelter in Carson City and the rescue group who is taking it is located in Lake Tahoe.  A Transport HERO would be requested who could drive the animal this local distance.

All Transport HEROES will receive tax receipts for their automobile costs as allowed per the IRS code.  These automobile expense donations are tax deductible for the volunteer.

Fundraiser HERO-We are supported solely by donations and fundraising events.  Fundraiser HEROES play an integral part in how much assistance we are able to give to the homeless animals. Fundraiser HEROES help brainstorm venues for events, work on the event’s logistics, advertising and at the event.  Possible endeavors such as an E-Bay account for the group or sales of promotional items are something we hope to also undertake in the near future.

Administrative HERO-In every organization there is always a great deal of office functions that need to be done daily.  An Administrative Hero might do computer updates for our own website, or for one of the national animal adoption websites that we are listed on, answer phone and email inquiries, perform correspondence duties such as donation acknowledgments or a variety of many other tasks which are so vital to keep the organization running.
