Dogs who are Looking for their HERO

“Ian”

Smooth coat Border Collie

Ian is an eleven month old, male, smooth coat Border Collie.

My name is Ian and it is amazing that I am even here spending time with you.  I am only eleven months old, just a baby, and I have already experienced abandonment, starvation,  lock-up and despair.   I was found with my brother, wandering the streets in California.  The local animal control brought me back to their shelter where I waited a few days for my former owners to show up, but they did not.  Then I heard the shelter people say I could be adopted,  but no one came and adopted me.

The shelter did an evaluation test and said I was eager to please and with training I would make a great companion.  They described me as a big, sweet, lovable guy who happens to be a purebred smooth coat Border Collie.  But the shelter was full and I was going to be put to sleep in the morning.  A shelter volunteer called Australian Shepherd-Border Collie rescue of Northern Nevada (www.aussiebcrescue.com) and my next HERO from the rescue group quickly made arrangements to pull me from the shelter and bring me to Nevada.

I have had several HEROES along the way, but now I need to find my final HERO, my new human who will take me home with them forever and ever.  If you would like to meet me, please call Australian Shepherd-Border Collie rescue of Northern, NV  at (775) 267-4068 or (775) 720-3732 or sierrabums7@yahoo.com.  And please tell them you saw me at www.lookingformyhero.org.

I’m Tank. You can see I’m a big guy, approx 88 pounds. That’s just the St. Bernard in me. Everyone seems to want a small dog but I’ve been waiting for that person that will appreciate me despite my size.  My foster mom doesn’t think I’m too big, she even lets me sleep on the bed.

I’m a pretty happy fellow and I like most everyone, but I need to get to know you before I’m comfortable with a lot of touching and stuff. I got tangled in some barbed wire a while back. It really hurt so I’m still a bit sensitive.  I don’t think little kids would understand so I need a home with grownups only, a person or person(s) of my own.

I really like going for rides and boy do I like snacks. I’ll sit and shake your hand for a dog cookie anytime. I’ve got a squeaky toy that I like to play with and sometimes I like to play tug o’ war.

I’m okay with most other dogs unless they’re real small and, although I’m not around cats I probably would think they’re squirrels and I would chase them too.

Tank is a foster dog of the Wylie Animal Rescue Foundation (WARF).  www.tahoewarf.com   For more information about Tank please contact his foster mom Judi at (775) 322-8280 or dnjhoward@sbcglobal.net Please tell them you saw Tank at www.lookingformyhero.org.

Tank was picked up by animal control with barbed wire wrapped all around his legs.  The shelter treated his physical wounds, and his foster mom healed his mental wounds and fears.  Tank has been for a very long time in foster care waiting for that one special person who will relate to him and understand his need to be the only dog in the home.  He has been through a lot and he deserves a loving family and joy filled life.

My name is Bowie. I weigh 85 pounds and to the best of my knowledge I could be a Shepherd and Retriever mix.   Sometimes I think I am so lucky because I have 3 foster moms that love me. They say it's because I am such a happy, affectionate guy. They love the way I'm always excited to see them, always ready to go for a walk or a ride in the car.

We sometimes play tag or tug o' war with my rope toy. I have a special talent that is quite admired in both the doggie world and the human world.  I not only love to have you throw a ball for me to chase, but I can catch it in mid-air!! I am a very good athlete, but my athletic skills and exuberant energy might be too much for a child. An adult home would probably be best for me.  Adults can throw the ball a lot longer than kids anyway and I could play ball all day long.

Sometimes my foster moms and I just sit quietly while they pet me and talk to me. I'm 4 years old now so I don't have to be doing something all the time like I did when I was a puppy. I am an educated dog, I know commands such as sit, shake, and I am housetrained of course. I like to be with people mostly, and I don't mind some girl dogs, but I don't get along with other boy dogs. And I don't like Cats!! Period.

For the moment, I am very happy here with my temporary moms, but I long to find my new permanent home, with my own human.  Even though my foster moms love me, they can't keep me forever. If they did, they could not save other dogs like myself who are on death row at the shelters. My foster mom’s tell me they are certain there is someone out there looking for someone just like me to love and share their life with. They tell me there ALWAYS is, and that very soon my future family will come and take me home with them. I trust my foster moms so I know my new family will be here soon.

I am a foster dog of the Wylie Animal Rescue Foundation (WARF) www.tahoewarf.com.  If you would like to hear more about me, please call my foster mom Judi at (775) 322-8280 or dnjhoward@sbcglobal.net.  Please tell them you saw me at www.lookingformyhero.org.
